“Your notes were like a warm blanket around me,” she said. “Even though you couldn’t take away the pain or make the situation change, you were able to pull me to a happy place for a few minutes. You helped take my focus off the pain.”
Her heart was broken, and I was helpless in the face of her suffering. What could I do? I wondered. How could I make her feel better?
Yesterday's school shooting has left me stunned, sad, and angry. Maybe you feel the same way. The depth of evil displayed there is hard to fathom. Defenseless, unsuspecting kids and adults--all of them someone's son or daughter, brother or sister, or parent. So many precious lives lost, so many others scarred forever.
I'd planned to write about something else today, but then I remembered this...
I was standing on the riverwalk early one morning, looking out across the water and listening to gentle waves lap against the wall. The morning sun just above filtered through the clouds, spreading a path of light across still-dark waters--a path toward me, it seemed...It was one of my favorite moments of 2017, but I would have missed it if I hadn't done this...
