A few weeks ago, I wrote about reinstituting an old tradition back into my life—Friday Fun Day—and encouraged you to do the same.
This week, I want to encourage you to take advantage of the beauty of the fall season. And why not have a little fun doing it?
To help with that, I’m giving you a beautiful new printable piece of art. Keep reading!
But first, here are some ideas of how you might find and enjoy the fall beauty around you.
Visit
Attend a fall festival.
Visit your favorite spot to enjoy the changing colors of the leaves.
Travel to someplace new.
Visit a tourist attraction in your city that’s new to you.
Go to an orchard and pick your own apples if they allow that. If not, explore the orchard’s store and sample a few new kinds to see if you discover a new favorite. Splurge on an apple fritter or apple pie.
Visit the plant store or nursery near you and pick out a mum in your favorite color.
Go
Go for a walk outside. Bundle up in your favorite cozy clothes if it’s chilly.
Take a drive on a sunny day and make note of the fall beauty outside your window.
Walk in your neighborhood, notice how the plants and trees are changing, and take photos of things that you find.
Go to a museum that has a new art or artifact exhibition.
Grab some friends and take a walk in your local park or community.
Check out a local pumpkin patch and bring home your favorite.
Savor
Drink a steaming cup of chai, cinnamon spice tea, apple cider, or seasonal coffee.
Make a big pot of soup or chili and have friends over to enjoy it too.
Slow down and pay attention to the beauty around you.
Sit beside a fire—either a fire pit, a bonfire, or a fireplace.
Make a favorite seasonal dish or dessert. Try a new one.
Fill your home with fall scents, such as a candle or a warming pot of cinnamon and spices.
Bake a batch of spiced nuts. Keep some and give some away.
Sit outside wrapped in a warm blanket, sipping your favorite hot beverage.
See
Notice how the light changes in the fall, such as the shorter days, the way the sunlight moves around your yard, or through the windows inside your house.
Make time to enjoy a sunrise or sunset.
In a new journal, start a gratitude list so you’ll have a long list by Thanksgiving. Plan to share it with someone.
Gather
Get some new fall décor for your home.
Pull out your child’s or grandchild’s fall artwork to add to your table or décor.
Fill a basket or tray with fall fruits and vegetables.
Rearrange your furniture, your artwork, your books—anything that will inspire you or give you a fresh perspective in your home.
Pull out your cozy blankets, add them to a sofa or chair, and create a comfy reading space.
Hang a wreath on your front door and add some pumpkins to your porch. If you normally enter your home a different way, make a point to go through the decorated door so you can enjoy it.
Decorate pumpkins in a variety of colors and sizes. If you don’t want to carve them, write messages or paint on them.
Gather leaves, nuts, berries, and pine cones for a seasonal basket for your porch.
Capture
Take photos of nature’s fall colors, shapes, and textures as you go about your day.
Take photos of yourself and loved ones in fall attire, outside if possible.
Snap pictures of the first frost.
Take photos of a single leaf on the sidewalk or leaves of your favorite colors.
Get a photo of a loved one or yourself holding up a perfect, colorful leaf.
Take a photo of the view from your front or back door.
Share
Send encouraging notes to friends or family. (Check out the Shop for beautifully-designed Fall notecards.)
Meet up with friends for lunch or coffee, in your favorite restaurant or a new one.
Rake up a pile of leaves and run or walk through it—or ask a child to do it. Enjoy their laughter.
