Do you remember a time when you were stunned by the beauty you saw or experienced?

I have. I’ve written about several moments like that, such as seeing these sunflowers in Italy, this sunset outside my house, and this famous museum masterpiece.

Recently, on Facebook, I asked you to tell me, to tell us, about moments that took your breath away. Settings or experiences that made you wide-eyed with wonder, maybe even brought tears to your eyes.

And wow! What you shared with me made me wish I had been there too.

So many of you responded (thank you!) that I am going to be spreading those memories over a few blog posts. First up is Sandra Stewart. She says, “The well of Sava river in Slovenia … goes through four different countries. It is just mind boggling to think that this is how a river starts. God’s creation is amazing.”

Ellen Messerschmidt has visited Switzerland many times, each time filling her camera roll with scenery from those trips. “[It’s] the most beautiful place on the planet by far and I’ve been a lot of places. Even Charles Spurgeon said it was a lot like heaven. And the Lauterbrunnen valley is what inspired Rivendell according to Tolkien.”

Crystal Miller remembers traveling through the Northwest when she was 18. “I’ll never forget how I felt when we climbed to a vista on the Going to the Sun Road, Glacier National Park, Montana. There were no guardrails. I felt like if I leaned out I could fly. It was the single most awe-inspiring, touch-the-face-of-God experience I’ve ever had. Stunning. I wish I had a photo but it seems to be better in my mind’s eye and emotions.”

For Raven Munoz, it’s all about snow. “Hearing how silent everything gets in the mountains during a blizzard is breathtaking to me! Before I moved to Georgia from Flagstaff I remember just pausing everything to go on a snow walk and listen to the silence and admire how beautiful my everyday scenery became when blanketed in snow!”

Laura Powell had a different kind of experience. “I was just telling some friends yesterday about the stunning beauty of seeing The Lion King on Broadway. The absolutely stunning voices, lights, colors, story...I had tears in my eyes from the opening line. It was truly a worship service for me--worship of the one true God who created humans in His image to create, sing, act, and tell moving stories.”

Beauty is all around us—whether we’re in a theater on Broadway, on vacation, on our daily commute or our own street. We have only to open our eyes, ears, and hearts to experience it.
